What is improv comedy?

The most common phrase quoted to describe improv is “making it up on the spot”. Live improv entertainment is like no other form or entertainment. The seemly magical creation of comedic scenes based on a simple random suggestion from an audience is magical. Or it seems like magic to folks who have never witnessed the process of spontaneous creation. Even to a veteran like myself, a well executed improv scene can make me laugh like no other comedy. The surprises and “in the moment” energy is infectious and audiences quickly learn to understand what they are experiencing.
